President Obama, joined by Attorney General Eric Holder and other high level officials, told the press conference: « It was the courage of ordinary Americans who stood up against the apathy of their neighbors, the denial of their pastors and teachers, and the forces of oppression that drew us closer to our founding ideals. On this day, I think all Americans should pause and reflect on how far we’ve come. But we can also take pride in how far we have yet to go. Because all Americans – regardless of race – should be able to vote, choose their leaders, or run for office without waiting in a line just to do it. »
