For instance, the data model is manually persisted in Python dictionaries. As a result, the data model does not easily support events or real-time analysis.
We have tried to stay close to the original RDA to be able to communicate with other users and other programming languages.
A nice implementation detail is that the schema can be added or removed with no compilation or other process, and only import/export tools will be affected by it. We have also made the schema versioning and caching available for good usability.
In addition, the data models have been built so that they have some similarity to the RDA. Moreover, they are as portable as possible (they are linked to the Python Standard Library).
Finally, the package does not provide a data source implementation. The approach is to build the implementation with more or less the same expressiveness as the data source would need. In this way, one can see all the data sources in use, especially when they are rarely used.
Madagascar has been built and used in several geophysics related projects, and also used in thesis by students.
